The Source Malawi

Malawi is one of the poorest nations on Earth. The average annual income for a person is $600 per year.

It is common to see children on the streets with no family or home. People from their villages are too poor to support these children who have lost their parents due to HIV, Malaria or a host of other illnesses. These children fend for themselves and live off scraps gathered by begging.

In 2016, on an outreach trip to Malawi, The Source started our first orphanage in the city of Lilongwe, the nations capital. Currently, The Source Malawi serves 12 children 24 hours a day / 7 days per week, and employees 3 full-time staff. Additionally, The Source Malawi conducts two weekly feeding programs and we usually serve between 120 to 170 kids per week.

Our goal is to develop a community of family style orphan homes where we can not only rescue orphans but help to pull family groups out of poverty.

Malawi has been known as the Warm Heart of Africa. The country is about half the size of the United Kingdom or the size of Pennsylvania, and one fifth is covered by Lake Malawi which is home to more species of fish than any other lake in the world!

With a population of over 18 million now, Malawi is largely an agricultural country and is making efforts to overcome decades of underdevelopment and the more recent impact of a growing HIV/AIDS problem. In 2017, an estimated 1,000,000 people were living with HIV/AIDS. More than half the population lives below the poverty line, and turbulent politics have hampered governance and continue to be a concern. rippleafrica.org/malawi-facts-and-figures/
